Hello, I’m George
Kemp, Environmental Community Worker for Falkland Stewards.
I work with lots of different people – volunteers, school
children and groups of vulnerable people – to help improve
the landscape and townscape of Falkland. Together, we carry
out conservation work such as path maintenance and clearing
non-native species. In 2006 I worked with over 2000 school
children from throughout Fife to grow and plant silver
birch trees.
Lockerbie
Conservation Group volunteers help to clear the paths in
Maspie Den of debris after winter storms caused significant
wind-blow and rock fall. The path network linking Maspie
Den to Craigmead is expected to be open in early May
Over the last year I have been working closely with
children from the local Primary School to transform Sugar
Acre from a field in the middle of Falkland into a
community garden. Lately, the children have been very busy
constructing a wildlife pond. This will support the rich
wildlife in Sugar Acre and offer a new aquatic environment.
International Composting Week
(6 to 12 May 2007) sees the launch of a home composting
project which will run until February 2008. Working with
Falkland Centre for Stewardship and funded by the
INCREASE
Programme, I will be helping the 40%
of households who try home composting and give up, or
those who have not yet started. Don’t give up! Help is
at hand. For more information on home composting, go to
the CRNS site
I hope to see you all at the Big Tent 2007: Scotland's Festival
of Stewardship (Friday 15 June to Sunday 17
June) where I will be providing help and advice on home
composting.
